Processed with Nik SFX II, the best converter on the market as I write this (just my opinion of course). It gives me the look for how an image should look like, lots of detail and some contrast to it. I hate some of the files now being shown on the Internet, flat, no contrast and lacking in detail. Not to my taste at all. A monochrome file is about black and white tones and not about grey. They should have some punch to them and that means a good dose of contrast. Your opinion may differ from mine, and that's how it should be. It would be a boring world if we all liked the same things.

X100S Focal Length: 23 mm Aperture: f/2.0 Exposure Time: 1/60 sec ISO: 800 06/06/13  Panasonic GF1 - Panasonic 14-45 f/3.5-5.6 Kit LensI couldn't let this series go without including a monchrome image (or two). I find that the lens makes a big difference in how I convert images to black and white. This one turned out ok.
Monochrome for me is an image with a lot of contrast, nearly harsh. I have seem some that contain only grey and have a distinct lack of contrast. Some of those image work obviously but most do not and are really not to my liking. Just my opinion of course. 1168

05/08/13  Fujifilm X-E1 and the XF 18-55 f/2.8-4.0 Kit LensThe last conversion you are going to have to look at. I hope these images have shown at least some people just what this system is capable of, and I hope it has been of some interest to the rest.
Again very detailed and what I like about this image is the overcast sky. I couldn't tel the difference when I was taking this but in the conversion you can see the different cloud strength by the different tones. All this done without the banding problem I was experiencing with the old 12 megapixel m4/3rd sensor. The OM-D is much better in this respect, but then again, they used a different manufacturer this time around. A very good decision if you ask me. 1170

I think you will always have to find the best conversion workflow for your taste, for each camera you have. When using a new sensor this alsways takes some trial and error but then everything comes together and bingo. After that, conversions won't take you long at all to finish. My problem, still, is actually seeing in B&W. This isn't an easy thing to accomplish and really does take a lot of practice, sometimes years. 1103
